About the brand

The founder of the brand, William H. Penhaligon, was born in 1837 in Penzance, Cornwall. In 1861, he opened his own perfumery and barbershop there. The family moved to London in 1869, where William worked at the Hammam Baths on Jermyn Street.

In 1870, he took over the barbershop and expanded it with his own premises on Jermyn Street. The brand's first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet, was created in 1872. Penhaligon's received its first royal warrant from Queen Alexandra in 1903.
