About the Brand

The history of L'Oréal began in 1909, when chemist Eugène Schueller founded the Société Française des Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux. His first hair dye was called L'Auréale, which later inspired the name L'Oréal. The company adopted this name in 1939 and has cited research and innovation as the foundation of its approach to cosmetics since its very beginnings.

The name L'Oréal thus directly references Eugène Schueller's first hair dye and the origins of the company.
