About the Brand
Penhaligon's was founded by William H. Penhaligon, who moved with his family to London in 1869. In 1870 he took over a barbershop next to the Hammam Baths on Jermyn Street and expanded it with his own premises.
His first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet, was created in 1872, inspired by the aroma of the neighbouring Turkish baths. The brand received its first royal warrant in 1903 from Queen Alexandra. Since 1949 it has operated exclusively as a perfumery.
Artemisia continues the brand's perfume heritage, whose first fragrance was created as far back as 1872.
