About the Brand

The roots of the 4711 brand date back to 1792, when merchant Wilhelm Mülhens received a recipe for Aqua Mirabilis as a wedding gift. The brand name derives from the house number of a building on Glockengasse street in Cologne, assigned during the French occupation in 1794. The designation 4711 was registered as a trademark in 1875.

4711 is a proprietary brand of the German manufacturer Mäurer & Wirtz. All fragrances of the brand are conceived as unisex and are sold in more than 65 countries. Mäurer & Wirtz states that it has not itself conducted animal testing of the cosmetic products it manufactures and distributes.
