About the Brand

The Lacoste brand was founded in 1933 by René Lacoste and André Gillier. In 1923, René was nicknamed "the Crocodile" by the American press, a reference to his tenacity and a bet over a crocodile-skin suitcase. He later created a lightweight and flexible tennis polo shirt made from petit piqué fabric.

According to its official history, the brand became the first to place a logo directly on a garment. It launched its first eau de toilette in the late 1960s in collaboration with Jean Patou.
