About the Brand

The history of the Tabac brand began in June 1951 with the launch of a soap designed for men. The name Original was added in October 1952 to distinguish the brand from imitations. In 1959, the range was expanded to include an aftershave, a pre-electric shave product and an eau de cologne.

The manufacturing company Mäurer & Wirtz was founded by Michael Mäurer and his stepson Andreas August Wirtz in 1845 as a soap factory in Stolberg. Tabac products continue to be manufactured in this German town to this day. Mäurer & Wirtz remains a family-owned company in its fifth generation and is fully owned by the Wirtz family.
