The history of the Tabac brand began in June 1951 with a soap created specifically for male customers. In 1959, the Original range was expanded to include an aftershave, a pre-electric shave product and a cologne.

The brand combines a focus on fragrances with shaving products. Its products are made in Stolberg in the German Rhineland. The company Mäurer & Wirtz, which stands behind the brand, was founded by Michael Mäurer and Andreas August Wirtz in 1845 as a soap factory in Stolberg near Aachen.
