About the Brand

The history of the Tabac brand began in June 1951 with the launch of a fragranced soap for men. The designation Original was added to the name in October 1952 to distinguish the brand from imitations. The Tabac Original range was introduced in 1959 and included an after-shave, a pre-electric shave product and an eau de cologne.

The manufacturer Mäurer & Wirtz was founded in 1845 in Stolberg as a soap factory by Michael Mäurer and Andreas August Wirtz. It remains a family business to this day, managed by the fifth generation. Tabac Original has been awarded the designation Marke des Jahrhunderts, meaning Brand of the Century.
