About the Brand

LEGO Group was founded by Ole Kirk Kristiansen in 1932. The name LEGO was formed by shortening the Danish words "leg godt", meaning "play well". The current form of the LEGO brick, with its interlocking principle using hollow tubes, was introduced in 1958.

LEGO Group is a private company headquartered in Billund, Denmark, and is still owned by the Kirk Kristiansen family.

The history of the LEGO brand thus remains tied to the founding family and the brick-connecting principle that has been in use since 1958.
