About the Brand

The founder of Max Factor worked as a make-up artist, wig maker and inventor. In 1914 he emigrated to the USA and settled in Los Angeles, near the emerging film industry.

In 1916 he began selling eyeshadows and eyebrow pencils outside the film world as well. Two years later, the brand introduced the Colour Harmony principle, which matched make-up shades with skin tone, eyes and hair. In 1920 the public Society Make-up range followed; Max Factor is also credited with introducing the term "make-up".

Max Factor's philosophy was to make beauty and professional make-up accessible to all women, not just Hollywood stars.
