About the Brand

The brand was founded by James Atkinson in London in 1799. Upon arriving in the city, he established a shop and perfume laboratory at 44 Gerrard Street in Soho. In 1826, he moved the retail part of the business to the Mayfair district, and that same year King George IV appointed Atkinsons as the official perfumer to the English royal court.

In 1832, the business relocated to 24 Old Bond Street in Mayfair. Following the joining of James's brother Edward in the 1830s, the company became known as J. & E. Atkinson Ltd.

The brand's fragrance formulas are dermatologically tested and comply with IFRA regulations and European cosmetic directives. Atkinsons generally does not divide its fragrances by gender and recommends choosing according to personal taste.
