Origin and properties of individual ingredients

Citric acid is obtained from the fermentation of by-products of industrial sugar production, such as molasses. Because of its ability to combine with calcium carbonate to produce carbon dioxide, it is used in toilet cleaners to dissolve calcium deposits. The vegetable thickener helps the cleaner to adhere well to the surface and to act on the deposits. Coconut oil derivatives and sugar wetting agents, derived from coconut fat, starch and sugar, are added in minute quantities to facilitate the release of oily soils. Ethanol serves as an aid to ensure proper consistency of the thickener.

Biodegradation

Citric acid is a component of plant, animal and human organisms and is therefore rapidly and completely broken down into carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms found in nature. In the process of making sugar wetting agent and coconut oil derivatives, the plant raw materials of starch, sugar and fat are extracted but the parts remain fully preserved in their natural structure. Therefore, it is easy for microorganisms to break down these wetting agents very quickly and completely.
