Quaternium-18, also known as Quat or Dimethyldi(talg, Hydriert) Ammonium Chloride, is a chemical substance widely used primarily in the cosmetic industry. This substance has a number of properties that make it very suitable for use in cosmetic products, including the ability to act as an antistatic agent, long-lasting regulating agent, conditioning or moisturizing agent. Due to its ability to retain water and soften the skin, it is often included in many different types of personal care products.
Products to which Quaternium-18 is added include shampoos, conditioners, hand creams, body lotions, skin cleansers, makeup, antiperspirants, and other skin and hair care products. Quaternium-18 is particularly popular in hair care products where it acts as a conditioner to smooth, soften and add shine to the hair. In addition, this ingredient is also used in some household cleaning products, including kitchen dish or floor cleaners.
