Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, also known as Small Grain, is a popular and widely used ingredient in the manufacture of cosmetic and health care products. It is an emulsifier that is characterized by a high degree of biodegradability; in fact, it is made from vegetable oils. The polysaccharides and glycerol serving as the basis of this ingredient are derived from plant sources, making Small Grain a suitable ingredient for products designed for vegans and people who prefer natural cosmetics.
Thanks to its properties, Small Grain is used, for example, in face creams, body lotions, make-up or sunscreens, but also in hair products such as shampoos or conditioners. It ensures a smooth and supple texture, allows better miscibility of water and oil components and helps the stability of the final products. In addition, although this is not its primary function, it also improves the moisturising effects of products. Despite its chemical name, Small Grain is a natural and safe emulsifier that is also suitable for sensitive skin.
