Lavender hybrid (Lavandula hybrida)

Other names: Lavandula intermedia, Lavandula intermedia, Lavandin

Harm score: 1 (Natural substances)

Hybrid lavender, also known as lavender middle or lavandin, is a perennial aromatic plant that is a hybrid of two species of lavender, namely lavender and lavender broadleaf. It is native to France and is common in the Provence and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence regions. This herb has many advantages, including frost resistance, longer flowering and a more intense fragrance. It reaches a total height of 60 to 100 cm and is covered with blue-purple flowers from June to August.

Due to its intense scent, lavandin essential oil is particularly popular in perfumery and cosmetics, where its effects are used in a range of products such as soaps, bath salts, shampoos, body lotions and other body and skin care products. In aromatherapy it is used for its calming and relaxing effect. The food industry then uses it as a spice and an ingredient in some types of tea. In addition, lavender hybrid is also used in medicine, for example in the treatment of respiratory diseases. It is also used to make dried products such as scented sachets, cushions and candles, which can create a pleasant and calming atmosphere with their fragrance. Because of its aesthetic value, it is also a common choice for planting ornamental gardens.
