Ferulic acid, also known as ferulic acid or 4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid, is a substance widely distributed in nature, specifically in plants. In the food industry, this acid is used as an additive to increase the shelf life of foods. As it can neutralise free radicals, it prevents processes leading to rancidity and spoilage of food. Ferulic acid is also found in some dietary supplements.
