Burdock (Saussurea costus)

Burdock (Saussurea costus) is a perennial herb of the aster family, native to mountainous regions in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and China. It is one of the most well-known plants in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is used primarily for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. In Europe, however, it is mainly used as an ornamental plant. Other names by which Burdock is known are mu xiang, Horsetail, Aucklandia costus, Aucklandia lappa, Saussurea, Saussurea lappa, Costus root or Fragrant Wood.
