Anionic tensides

Other names: Anionic surfactants

Harm score: 2 (Derivatives of natural substances)

Anionic tensides, also known as anionic surfactants, are chemical compounds used to reduce the surface tension between two substances that would not normally bond. The application of these substances can form an emulsion, dissolve impurities and improve the ability of products to penetrate into the smallest pores and crevices. Anionic surfactants are referred to as "anionic" because their charged portion (head) will split into negatively charged anions when in an aqueous environment.

Anionic surfactants are very commonly used in a wide variety of products found in our daily lives. These products include detergents, washing powders, washing gels, shampoos, shower gels, toothpastes and many other cosmetic and hygiene products. Due to their ability to reduce surface tension and improve wetting, cleaning and emulsifying capabilities, anionic tensides are described as a key ingredient in many cleaning and cosmetic products. It is important to note that although these substances are generally considered safe for use, some studies suggest that high concentrations of anionic tensides may be irritating to the skin or eyes, which should be taken into account when selecting and using products containing them.
