6-Hydroxyindole, also known as Indole-6-ol, is an organic compound belonging to the indole group, which are heterocyclic aromatic compounds. 6-Hydroxyindole is one of the hydroxylated forms of indole, which has a hydroxyl group attached to its sixth carbon.
This compound has a number of uses in various industries. In particular, it is an important intermediate in the industrial synthesis of many other compounds such as drugs or dyes. It is particularly important for the pharmaceutical industry, where it is used in the synthesis of several medicinal substances. Furthermore, 6-Hydroxyindole finds application in laboratory analysis, where it serves as a precursor for the synthesis of various fluorescently labelled indoles used in biochemical and molecular biological research.
