About the Brand

Jean Patou founded his eponymous fashion house in Paris in 1914. He sought to liberate women's clothing by offering dresses without corsets, shorter skirts, and an urban sportswear line. He used a monogram formed by the initials JP on his garments.

In 1930, he created the fragrance Joy as a response to the economic crisis, presenting it as an exceptionally expensive perfume. The fragrance division of the brand was later taken over from Procter & Gamble by the British group Designer Parfums. In 2018, the Jean Patou brand was acquired by the LVMH group.
